Gene offered FREE hot breakfasts to the children in the school district as well as the local community college students.
When things first shut down, we realized that our school children who typically can attend breakfast and lunch at no cost to them during normal school hours would no longer have such access. When COVID hit, we also had to do some adjusting. In 2012, he moved to his current location and has been growing ever since! He had been unemployed for nearly two years during this time and on a song and a prayer, Grumpy's was born. After graduating Johnson & Wales Culinary School, he opened his restaurant at what was once the local indoor farmer's market in 2010. Gene has been cooking since he was a toddler.
